January 27, 2008

Today we went to Tela, a beach town about an hour and a half from El Progreso. It was the same group of 18 from yesterday. The water was fabulous, warmer than the air in fact. It was a bit strong, and someone drowned there yesterday, so we stayed pretty close to shore. Probably a good idea anyway, because my kids are the only ones that can swim. Most Hondurans can`t, simply because there is no place to learn. Anyway, this is what happened when we first got to the beach. I was so impressed by the number of people who came running to help. They actually had to lift the van up out of the whole!

January 26, 2008

Today we went to a crocodile farm.

Tomas put this toad on me after Max found it in the bathroom (actually he tells me it was IN the toilet!) Eww - I just realized this thing was in the toilet- ugh - hopefully not this one, there were three. Anyway, Tomas put it on my leg expecting me to freak, but I didn't. Not till it jumped up, that is.

In order: Tomas, Carlos (Tomas's brother`s son), the next three are technically only neighbors-but they are more like family, TJ, Katia (Tomas's brother's daughter), Susana, Suyapa (Tomas`s brother's wife), Myrka and Bianca (Tomas's sister's daughters), Myra (Tomas's sister), Andres (Tomas's brother's son), Max, Nelson (Myra's husband), Adilia and Karla (Tomas`s brother's
daughter)

They have a washing machine, but this is more fun.

January 24, 2008

We rented four horses for half an hour and took turns riding. I even rode. We had a blast.

We went to Lago de Yojoa today. It`s the largest lake in Honduras - 16 kilometers long.

Susana and Katia

I love this bridge. The sign says they are not responsible for any accidents, hold on to the rope.

The kids found tons of shell on the edge of the lake.

I love this van. It's a Nissan Urvan. It's probably smaller than the van I have now, but it seats 15. And it's diesel with a manual transmission.

We bought pineapples for 10 lempiras each. That's about 55 cents!

Like I said, Tomas is REALLY happy to be here.

This will be our home for the next 2 weeks.

Cousins getting to know each other.

Susana and her cousin Karla. Susana is having a great time playing with all her cousins. She speaks english to them and they speak spanish to her. It's really awesome to watch. The older kids are being a little more reserved, but they'll get over it.

We are on our way to Honduras! It's been 10 years. Needless to say we are just a little bit excited.
We travelled for just over 14 hours.
